New joint from Mala Reignz featurting the homie Elus. This might be one of my favorite songs/vidz that he’s made. Don’t sleep on Mala yo, shawty goes hard on this one.
Haven’t had the time to peep the whole video but this looks hella interesting. I think that a lot of us young men have been conditioned to believe that Black men are to act a certain way in order to “survive” in America. But basing your existence on survival is to court failure in and of itself. We’ve got to cultivate a new sense of masculinity and be open to more progressive and non-traditional ways of thought. This documentary is an attempt to do so. Peace to Spade for the hookup. Enjoy!
You know, it tickles me to hear the young bucks go coockoo over a certain sizzurp-sippin emcee. Its not like the young’n doesn’t have immense talent, but his skills certainly pale in comparison to some of the all time greats. Often we forget about our living legends and I can’t think of a more under-appreciated emcee than the ever-eccentric, Andre3000. Lately he’s taken a break from acting and has been dabbling in hip-hop again - dropping monster verses for the likes of Southern start ups like DJ Unk all the way on down to Southern legends, UGK (Pimp R.I.P.). This go round he’s back to outshining his old partner in rhyme on Royal Flush, the lead single to Big Boi’s upcoming solo album, Lucious Left Foot. In my opinion, this is an early candidate for Verse of the year. Lyrics and dl link after the jump…
Rolling Stone article on EMI’s plan to change their business model to adjust to the effects of the digital revolution. Bout time one of these labels smartened up. After being bought out for $4.7 Billion by private equity firm Terra Firma, it seems that the new head honcho felt the need to do some house cleaning. This is just a sample of what he found…
“Hands was appalled at the label’s wastefulness, citing expensive gifts sent to artists, multimillion-dollar severance packages for executives and salaries that rose even as revenues dropped. “For everyone who runs a major label, making change is a big personal risk,” he says. “If you just keep things quiet, you can continue to earn some pretty massive salaries for a few more years until the whole thing comes to an end.”
Seems like the big wigs were content with milking the system till the end and riding this thing out. Further proof that the game needs some new blood. But the good news in all this is that they plan to place a heavier emphasis on A&R work. A label actually focusing on the music, who’d have thunk it.

Styles will change,
they say change is dang, erous,
as a king standing on a terrace,
while his partner's pointing up at the rightful men,
cowards shoot you never know when your life will end, then,
live like there ain't no morro,
and then if one come then this the motto,
now put message in bottle,
you go to the nearest beach and open your car do[or],
and walk to the place where the sea meets the land,
yeah its easier to run the streets than walk in the sand,
hey I'm talkin' young man, as if chalk in my hand,
I will take yall lil' ass to school,
its cool when the kids call me Sunny,
the hood calls me Stacks,
the bees call me Honey,
Hollywood calls me back,
crack and I have a lot in common,
we both come up in the 80s and we keep that bass pumpin,
that's a nega-tive comparison, embarrassin',
unfortunate that if you come up fortunate the hood consider you lame, (ha!)
I thought the name of the game,
was to have a better life I guess it aint what a shame,
I don't slang, never slung,
but I'm one with the slum,
that has a name well fitting,
plenty cheese getting,
you wonder why they call it the trap so watch your tail,
and I'm not kidding,
the rats and mice would give advice they say you could paint and draw,
get outta here, go show em that we're more than slangin raw,
that's when I broke into my Big Rube impression,
and I tried to enlighten but that night I learned a lesson,
that the morals that you think you got, go out the window,
when all the other kids are fresh and they got new Nintendo,
Wiis, and your child is down on her knees,
prayin hard up to God for a whopper with cheese,
do you B, hit the streets hard with a flair,
or do you A, go to school for heating and air, there,
make an honest living, but make a crooked killin,
or do a bit of both until your holding on a million, brilliant,
you got one foot in, one foot out,
you put your left foot back in, and then you shake it all about,
you do the hokey pokey till you turn your life around,
THAT's what it's all about, 3000 out!
